Have you injured your fingers at work?

Have you injured your fingers at work?

You’ve always been a manual worker, which means you utilize your hands for all parts of your job. You’ve suffered scrapes and bruises but generally managed to recover quickly.

However, it’s important to remember that some injuries to the hands and fingers are severe. In extreme cases, it may take a long time to recover and full recovery might not even be possible. What are some of the more common finger injuries?

Fractures

Each finger comprises three bones, which can all be fractured when suffering trauma. There are numerous ways that a finger can be broken, but this type of injury often happens when using a hand tool. In some cases, recovery can occur fairly quickly. In more severe instances, multiple surgeries may be required to align the bones properly.

Nerve damage

The dorsal and volar nerves run along each side of the finger, sending signals to the brain. During a work-related accident, these nerves can be severed. Often, an individual will feel numbness in their hands after the nerves have been damaged. The recovery may involve an extended period of rest and restorative surgeries.

Dislocations

Finger dislocations can be very painful and they often impact the tendons and soft tissue in the fingers as well. The medical team will need to figure out the best way to place the finger back into its normal alignment. Sometimes, a surgical procedure will be required. An injured party may require several months to recover after such an accident.

Unfortunately, no matter how careful you are, work-related injuries do happen. If you’ve been hurt on the job, make sure you explore your options in terms of pursuing legal compensation.
